A visa to the Russian Federation is a travel document that allows foreign nationals to enter and stay in the country with a specific purpose for a limited amount of time. The majority of international travellers (unless they are nationals of the countries that have a visa-free regime with Russia [hyperlink]) have to apply for a visa to Russia.
The unified electronic visa is a simplified and fast way to obtain an entry permit to the Russian Federation. It is available for the citizens of 52 countries [hyperlink to Who is eligible to apply?], according to the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation from 6 October 2020 No. 2571-r.
E-visa holders can travel to and across Russia for the period of 16 days [hyperlink to How long can I stay?] with the following purposes:
The e-visa application procedure is straightforward and does not require to present any specific documents to confirm the purpose of your visit (such as a letter of invitation or a booking confirmation from a hotel, etc).

The above list of countries is approved by the Government of the Russian Federation. The citizens of the listed countries can use a simplified procedure and apply online to be granted an electronic visa to Russia.
The unified e-visa to Russia is a single entry visa. The entry permit is given for 16 consecutive days, this means that you are able to stay and travel across Russia within that period of time.
Please note, that the days of arrival and departure are included in the 16 days permit. They are counted as 2 days of staying on the territory of the Russian Federation. For example, if you arrive in Russia on 1 May at 10.00pm, you must leave the country by 11.59pm on 16 May.
The e-visa to Russia is valid for 60 days from the date of issue. Please note, your visit to Russia has to fall within the period of validity of your visa. You must exit the country by the last date of your visa, even if your stay is less than 16 days.
The electronic Russian visa cannot be renewed or extended from the territory of the Russian Federation. Exceptions may apply in a limited number of cases, when the breach of the visa validity period happens due to the unsurmountable circumstances, a need for an emergency medical treatment or natural disasters.
Russian e-visa holders are eligible to enter the country once within 60 days after the issue date, and stay in Russia for the period of 16 days or less.

Applying for the unified e-visa to Russia is simple. The whole process — filling out the application form, submitting the documents and payment, is online. The unified e-visа application must be submitted no earlier than 40 days and no later than 4 days before the planned travel date to Russia. The standard processing time of e-visa applications is 4 days or less.

If you are planning to travel with children, it is required to submit a separate e-visa application for each child. Children under six years old are exempt of the application fee.
